Tracing the Worship at Pilgrim

This section introduces Pilgrim Community’s worship liturgy. By God’s grace, we seek to embody the ancient Christian faith in our present context.

Liturgy Guide

Please read each section as we guide you through our Lord’s Day worship at Pilgrim Community Church.

Opening with Praise

Our service opens with a call to worship as the presider reads a psalm in metric form, echoing the sung poetry of the Old Testament. The presider then offers words of welcome, introducing our church’s vision—Christ-centered, Gospel-shaped, and Together for Good—and directing us to the bulletin as a guide for our shared worship. He then leads us in prayer, preparing our hearts to sing.

Confession of Sin

The presider reads a passage of Scripture and briefly explains the importance of confession: repentance and faith are not only how we are saved, but how we continue to live as Christians. He then reads from the Law to remind us of our need for grace. After a moment of silent prayer, we join together in the printed corporate confession.

Giving Thanks for God’s Mercy

The presider offers a word of assurance, reminding believers of God’s promise of forgiveness and inviting unbelievers to seek the same in Christ. We then present our offerings in gratitude for God’s mercy and in support of the church’s mission. After brief announcements, the presider leads us in prayer.

Hearing the Word

The appointed Scripture is read with reverence and clarity. The preaching that follows unfolds its meaning, bearing witness to our great need for Christ and proclaiming the Gospel as God’s gracious answer to that need.

Giving Thanks for God’s Grace

Following the sermon, we lift our voices in a song of response. Concluding this time, the congregation joins together in praying the Lord’s Prayer, as printed in the bulletin.

Confessing Our Faith

Here we confess together the faith once delivered to the saints. This year we read through the Athanasian Creed, declaring our unity with the church of all ages and our place in the long witness of God’s people.

Closing with Praise

We conclude with a closing song, the benediction from Scripture, and the singing of the Doxology. Though our formal worship ends, we continue in fellowship together.

What can I expect during the worship service?

What time do you meet?

Our Sunday morning service begins at 10:15 AM. We invite you to join us earlier at 9:00 AM for Sunday School classes for both adults and children. Refreshments are served in the fellowship area before Sunday School and worship. We also gather for our evening service at 5:00 PM, and warmly welcome you to both services.

Which language are your services conducted in?

Our worship services are conducted in English.

Do you have childcare or Sunday School during worship?

Sunday School is held before the morning service. During worship, we encourage children to stay with their parents. However, we do have nearby training room with audio available for nursing mothers and little ones who are still learning to listen.

After the morning worship, what else can I expect on a Lord’s Day at Pilgrim?

Many stay to share lunch together, and guests are warmly invited. In the afternoons, we gather for various activities: Men’s and Women’s Groups on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, a Prayer Meeting on the 2nd, and a teaching session led by our elders on the 4th.
