2007

Discovering Tim Keller

James Bryner Chu first discovered the resources from Timothy Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.

January 2008

James enters Seminary

While at the Biblical Seminary of the Philippines, James learns about church planting in an Urban Missions course.

2009

The Redeemer Connection

Armed with a growing desire to church plant, James reaches out to Redeemer Church Planting Center (known today as City to City) to learn more.

2010

Church Planting Proposal

James heads to Sydney, Australia for a summer internship, under the mentorship of Rev. Eugene Hor, and writes the beginnings of the Pilgrim Project Proposal.

2011

Partnership with UECP

James graduates from seminary and decides to partner with the United Evangelical Church of the Philippines to launch Pilgrim Community Project in Katipunan, Quezon City.

June 2012

Church Planting Training

James joins the first ever City to City Asia Intensive church planting training across four cities.

December 2012

Pre-launch Services

In the meantime, prayer meeting and Bible studies continue at the Chu residence along Park 9 Alley. Pre-launch Advent services were held during December and monthly preview services were happening right up to May of the following year.

June 2, 2013

Launch Day

Pilgrim Community Church held its first Lord’s Day service at the Walter Hogan Conference Center inside the Ateneo de Manila University.

June 2014

Pilgrim Turns One

Pilgrim Community Church celebrated one year since it first launched in June. The first anniversary was well attended by many friends and family. But regular attendance has been sparse in the first year.

May 10, 2015

First Members of Pilgrim

Pilgrim Community services continue weekly. The very first set of members professed their faith to Christ and their commitment to the church in May of 2015.

2015

Pilgrim’s Second Location

On it’s third year, Pilgrim moved to a more permanent location at Room 201, Eagle Star Condominium along F. dela Street, Quezon City. While the church is slowly growing, having held their first Vacation Bible School that summer, UECP ended their five-year commitment to support the project.

2017

Pilgrim Theological Conference

With this new found conviction in their theological commitments, Pilgrim Theological Conference was first launched with Rev. Rowland Ward as the speaker. James also sought four men to train as elders for the church. Coram Deo Groups was also started during this time.

December 2, 2018

Joining the IPC

Pastor James sought affiliation with the International Presbyterian Church (IPC) and was ordained on December 2, 2018 by two representatives from the IPC UK British Presbytery.

June 2019

Deacons-in-Training

Pastor James reports to the UK Presbytery in IPC Ealing, London that summer for the very first time. As church attendance begin to pick up, three men have been chosen to train as deacons. Rev. Dr. Chad van Dixhoorn joins the second Pilgrim Theological Conference as the speaker.

2020

Move to Detroit

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pilgrim moved to its third location at 34 Detroit Street in Cubao, Quezon City. Temporary online services were held beginning in March and in-person gathering resumed in November 29th.

2021

Building the Session

Elder Paulo Macaraig was installed on July 18th and Elder Moises Acayan was ordained on October 31st. Pilgrim now has a proper session together with Pastor James. On November 7th, we also saw the launch of the first evening service at Pilgrim.

2022

IPC Established Congregation

Pilgrim Community launched a third service in the South on August 21st. In November 27th, the church voted overwhelmingly to join the International Presbyterian Church as an Established Congregation.

2023

Pilgrim X

Pilgrim’s first deacon, Jimmy Centino, was ordained last January 1st. Pilgrim is now officially a Greystone Learning Community. By God’s grace, the church also turned ten years old.
